CEO Profile
Paul Cathers grew up in what he refers to as “The Leave it to Beaver House” in Vancouver, B.C. An athletic child, he was involved in sports and active in the family business. In his early 20’s, he embarked on a successful modeling career, where the international scope of the fashion industry allowed him to live in New York, Miami, Milan, Paris and Germany. Working for big name fashion editorial and retail clients, he traveled extensively in Europe and eventually all over the world.
Instead of getting caught up in the trappings of the glamorous life, Cathers began to explore other avenues for his creativity and remarkable people skills. “I started considering what I could take from this experience, knowing that a career in the fashion industry was potentially limited in longevity and interest to me,” he explains.
His far-flung travels allowed him to cultivate a sense of ease and openness with other cultures. “It’s not necessarily the travel itself that I’m passionate about, but the relationships I develop with people from different cultures,” Cathers says. While visiting India, he befriended an artisan who made beautifully intricate rugs. Cathers’ fascination with the authentic and handcrafted became a catalyst for his career. He realized that his love of foreign cultures and fashion-honed aesthetic sense could intersect.
“It’s a very unique, well-traveled clientele,” Cathers says. “Our clients become friends. It’s a small town with the sophistication of a big city. We’re all here for a lot of the same reasons – the unmatched beauty and healthy lifestyle.”
CH carries an international collection of home furnishings and sophisticated design services, with a truly personal touch. “I gravitate toward warm, clean lines. We all have a lot of clutter in our lives, but I like to create spaces that do not clutter the mind and space, but instead make you feel warm and comfortable.”
Cathers is particularly interested in the uses of reclaimed woods and materials, and also believes in enriching the communities where he sources his furniture and rugs.
With a seemingly limitless inventory of the most unique furniture, accessories and rugs from all over the world, CH is fast becoming an industry phenomenon. Sophisticated and yet utterly devoid of pretension, Cathers’ personal values and heartfelt philosophies inform the retail experience. “I love the pride and passion that goes into everything we produce,” he says. “Selling a piece of passion is easy.”
